As an orthodontist, Dr. Stubbs encourages parents to bring their kids in for a free consultation around the age of 7. While not every child needs braces at this age, we can more easily detect and correct teeth and jaw alignment issues at this age. If these issues are caught early in the growth and development of your child, problems like overbites or underbites, crooked or crowded teeth, and incorrect jaw position or disorders of the jaw joints are corrected. Left untreated, these problems can scale and in some instances require extractions. However, more often than not and due primarily to financial circumstances, orthodontic treatment is generally addressed much later in life as our kids become teens, and crooked or crowded teeth have become a part of their identity. At Stubbs Orthodontics, we understand this, and this is why Orthodontic Braces for Teens is such a big part of our practice.
Braces for Teens
Many teens will sometimes reject the idea of braces. Let’s face it, what teenager wants to be known for a mouth full of wires? Luckily, today due to advances in orthodontic technology we have many options to quickly treat our patients in a more aesthetic manner. These treatment options include Metal braces/Traditional Braces, Ceramic Braces, Lingual braces and Invisalign.
Cost of Braces for Teens
The cost range for braces can vary greatly for each type. Some orthodontists treat with lingual braces, these treatments are generally very costly and only are considered in extreme circumstances as a treatment alternative. These are followed by Metal braces (traditional braces) and Ceramic braces, which although they are the same size and shape as traditional metal braces, they are tooth-colored or clear brackets that blend into teeth. Finally, there is Invisalign or clear aligners. These are mouth guard-like clear plastic aligners that are replaced every 2 -3 weeks for a period of 6 to 15 months.
